How it works
pace = time ÷ distancePace is time per kilometre or mile. Speed is the inverse: distance per hour. Runners think in pace because it maps directly to splits on a watch.
The table shows the same pace held over 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. In a real race you will slow down over longer distances, so use the race time predictor for realistic targets.
Common questions
How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
Multiply the pace per km by 1.609. A 5:00 /km pace is 8:03 /mi. Switch the unit in the calculator to see it directly.
What is a good running pace?
It depends on age, sex and training. For recreational runners, 5:30–7:00 /km on easy runs is common. Use the training pace calculator to get easy pace from your own race time.
Why does my watch pace jump around?
GPS updates in short bursts and loses accuracy under trees and between buildings. Lap pace or average pace is more reliable than instant pace.
